Today is May 22nd, a day of dual significance: it marks the adoption of the Convention on Biological Diversity and is also celebrated as International Day for Biological Diversity. With the 2022 theme ‘Building a Shared Future for All Life’ announced, Kunming steps into a new preparatory phase for the upcoming fifteenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP 15) to the Convention on Biological Diversity. Despite accounting for only 4.1% of China’s total land area, Yunnan is the province richest in biodiversity. From alpine cold zones to tropical valleys, its complete ecosystems harbour many rare, endemic, and ancient species, making it a key global area for biodiversity. The diverse ethnic communities of Yunnan have developed a rich cultural tapestry through their understanding, adaptation, and utilization of nature. To promote the concept and achievements of biodiversity conservation, artists from Yunnan are dedicated to contributing through their diverse artistic creations. Today, let us follow in the footsteps of four guests as we venture into the colourful Yunnan, focusing on the diverse life in this magical land and exploring the multifaceted art inspired by these wondrous creatures.
